Day 15 – Latvia ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ปย

April 23, 2017

I had the afternoon off from my course, so Kyle and I drove down to Latvia for the rest of the day. The landscapes in Latvia were surprisingly much greener than Estonia. Our first stop was Gaujas National Park.

In the national park sits the remains of a beautiful medieval castle, Turaida Castle, from the 1200’s. The castle has now been turned in to an excellent museum and only cost 3โ‚ฌ per person to explore the grounds.

We climbed the tallest tower.

There was a great view of the Gauja River (left) and the ravine of Vฤ“jupฤซte (right) from the tower.

The entire castle grounds were beautiful and very well maintained.

Our next stop was the little town of Ainaลพu right near the Latvian-Estonian border.

At the border there is 482-meter breakwater in the Baltic Sea.

We walked out all the way out to the sea, despite the strong and cold winds.

Our final stop in Latvia was the loveliest restaurant, Pล‚lavas. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

The inside was fabulous, and we would have loved to have booked a room here if we didn’t have to be back in Estonia.

The areas of Latvia that we were able to explore were beautiful, and I would love to visit Latvia again to see more of this country.
